London-Sydney 50

The Historic Marathon Rally Group presents the “London-Sydney 50”. The event celebrates 50 years of the London to Sydney Marathon Rally.  The show will also remember other endurance rallies of the 60’s and 70’s.

Join us at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon on 29th July 2018 for, the London-Sydney 50, a celebration of this great motoring event and the other endurance rallies and marathons that followed in its wake through the 70’s and 80’s.

The British Motor Museum is based at Gaydon.  How to get there.

This is what you will be able to see on the day – Gates open at 10.00am –

  • A Display of Rally Cars from the period.
  • Driver and celebrity interviews.
  • Discounted entry to the British Motor Museum.
  • Video, memorabilia and model displays.
  • Parade of historic cars – convoy arriving at 11.00am

There had been motoring rallies and “marathons” since before the First World War, but these had been more of a “survival challenge” than an out-and-out competitive event.  All this changed in November 1968 with the staging of the 10,000 mile London to Sydney Marathon.  In searing hear and dust it was an unprecedented test of man and machine.
