This 1975 Datsun 180B SSS historic rally car is a veteran of the 1977 London to Sydney Rally, and the 1979 Repco Round Australia Reliability Trial.
Purchased new from Giddings Datsun in Bathurst by Arthur Davis, the car competed in the 1975 and 1976 Southern Cross Rally with Arthur and Rod Jones. After extensive preparation the car was entered in the 1977 London to Sydney rally, with John Latham, another Bathurst local joining the crew for the 30,000km event.
Of the 69 entries in the rally, only 47 made it to the finish, with this car in 18th place. Sold to Kevin McDiarmid in 1978, the car was prepared for the 1979 Repco trial, with Peter Piegan and David Travis making up another all-Bathurstian crew. Only 92 of 208 cars made the finish, with this car in 21st place. It is believed that this is the only car to have entered and finished both the 1977 London to Sydney and the 1979 Repco trial, and from 2019 to 2021 the current owner restored it back to the 1977 appearance.
