Here’s one with a difference though!

How do you fancy the idea of owning a little piece of rallying history…..with the emphasis on ‘little’?

On Sunday May 5th 1974, a Ford Capri Mk1 2.8V6 built by a team of 22 prototype development engineers at Ford Motor Company’s Dunton, Essex, Research & Development facility entered and competed in the 16,493 km, 20 day long UDT London-Sahara-Munich World Cup Rally, the last of the three great Marathon rallies that challenged man, woman and machine as they crossed the world and faced the most forbidding terrain against the clock.

Running as Car no.2 on the event, this particular car made it to the finish line in Munich and co-drivers Dave Skittrall and Brian Peacock received a Certificate of Performance for their efforts, having been lost for almost three days in the wilderness of the Sahara desert in an incident that almost cost them their lives.

The Historic Marathon Rally Group is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this extraordinary event as part of our Historic Marathon Rally Show at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire UK on Sunday 21st April 2024. The genuine original Capri still exists and can be seen at the show, together with its owner of the last 44 years who has recently completed a full restoration of Car No.2.

In recognition of this wonderful event, our Group’s Chairman and model maker extraordinaire Andrew Bradbury has painstakingly and beautifully fashioned the original car into an exquisite scale model, seen here in its display case.

On Monday February 12th 2024, this particular model will go under the hammer in an online Auction at e-Bay. The winning bidder will not only have the joy of owning not only one of just three limited edition Capri models but all proceeds will go towards the cost of our April Historic Marathon Rally Show and Anniversary celebration.
