Historic Marathon Rally Group (HMRG) – Hall 5, Stand 560

The stand featured Austin 1800 VLT 1G the ex-1968 London Sydney Marathon and 1970 World Cup Rally, having a new radiator fitted.

Also on display was the the MGB,UMD 534F, driven by Jean Denton (later Baroness Denton) and Tom Boyce on the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon.

The third car was the Ford Capri 2.8lt V6, GVX 40H, which competed in both the 1970 and 1974 World Cup Rallies. Owned by its current owner since 1981.

Among the visitors to the stand were Tina Kerridge Reynolds and husband Tim who drove Austin Maxi, no. 20 on the 1970 World Cup Rally and Ray Evans who drove Ford Cortina, no.9, also on the 1970 World Cup Rally.

HMRG is an unfunded and voluntary organisation run by a committee of enthusiasts who aim to reunite historic cars and their crews from the era of Marathon Rallies and Classic Car Endurance events.

The most recent HMRG event was the successful 50th anniversary of the London – Mexico World Cup Rally, held at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon on 1 May 2022.

Plans are underway to hold a Marathon Rally Car Show, featuring
the 50th anniversary of the 1974 UDT London – Sahara – Munich World Cup Rally, at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, on Sunday 21st April 2024.
